HAPPY NEW YEAR! MARK YOUR CALENDARS...
One of the best gifts for anyone year's end holiday is a calendar.
I don't count on Santa Claus to bring me this present, opting instead to buy mine as soon as they appear on store shelves in the early fall. And what is it about a new appointment book that excites me? It is not the glossy photos, trivia, or humorous quips. It is a promise held within. Those empty spaces tracking hours, days, weeks, and months offer a seemingly unending amount of time to plan activities. The pages are neat and clean, not dog-eared and smudged like the leaves of the old year's datebook. Fresh, new, and alive, I have a genuine blank slate.
I share with you several important Curtain Players dates already marked on my 2010 calendar. The CP leadership team is building our "community in theatre" and we look forward to active participation by the most number of Curtain Players we can get.
These are opportunities to gather as a community to work on projects improving our theatre and to celebrate the camaraderie in our shared appreciation for theatre. Open your datebooks and check your availability to join us.
FRIDAY JANUARY 29: A Curtain Players Midseason Party, Bel-LAGO, 170 North Sunbury Road, Westerville. Party begins at 7:30; remarks at 8. No admission; free appetizers and cash bar.
SATURDAY JANUARY 30: Theatre Work Day, 9 AM at the playhouse. General cleanup inside the house.
SUNDAY JANUARY 31: Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Awards Night, Jewish Community Center, 1125 College Avenue, Bexley. Doors open at 6 with the program at 7. Tickets $10 general admission; $5 individual Roundtable members. Call 614-470-0970 for reservations.
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 6: Town Hall Meeting on the Future of the CP Building, 1 PM at the Harlem Road playhouse. This brainstorm session is a first step in creating a master plan for maintenance and improvements to our building.
SUNDAY–MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7-8: Auditions for A Thousand Clowns by Herb Gardner.
FRIDAY MARCH 5: Opening Night for Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen. Performances continue through March 21.
Please explore the pages on this website for details or e-mail me or specified project leaders with questions.
Looking ahead, there will be more Curtain Players dates to note. One of those will be an event to announce the 2010-2011 Curtain Players season and to introduce the directors.
It doesn't take long for those calendar spaces to fill. Hopefully, each entry in our datebooks can be a reminder of meaningful time spent with good people enjoying and sharing our Curtain Players bond.
