Curtain Players wins 3 Roundtable awards, including its third Outstanding Production honor in four years
Curtain Players was among the big winners at the Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Awards held Sunday, January 30, at the Jewish Community Center in Columbus.
The Westerville/Galena-based community theatre company received three of the 18 awards presented during the ceremony, including the Roundtable's top honor, Outstanding Production.
Curtain won the Outstanding Production Award for its presentation of MAURITIUS.
This is the second consecutive year – and the third time in four years – that Curtain has received the prestigious recognition. Its production of CHARLEY'S AUNT was a Roundtable Outstanding Production Award winner for 2009; TO GILLIAN ON HER 37th BIRTHDAY for 2007.
The Curtain Players staging of MAURITIUS (May 28 – June 13, 2010) was the Central Ohio premiere of the Theresa Rebeck play that had a Broadway run in 2007. MAURITIUS tells the story of a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game among three stamp dealers and half-sisters whose mother's death leaves the two women in possession of a valuable collection. The Curtain Players cast included Randy Benge, Natalie Jensen, Patrick Schaefer, Charlie Sloin, and Marla Williams.
The Roundtable recognized April Olt with an award in the Excellence in Direction category for MAURITIUS.
Curtain's third Roundtable Award went to Emily Bach. Bach received an Excellence in Acting award for her portrayal of the title role in Curtain's HEDDA GABLER production (March 5 – 21, 2010). Olt and Bach are working together on their follow-up Curtain projects. Olt is directing and Bach has the leading role in Rebecca Gilman's contemporary social drama BOY GETS GIRL, which opens a three-weekend stand Friday, April 1, at Curtain's 5691 Harlem Road playhouse.
The Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Awards ceremony recognized the best of Central Ohio theatre in 2010. The Roundtable is a consortium of approximately two dozen member theatre companies based in and around Columbus. The organization named its 18 award recipients from a pool of more than 50 nominees in acting, directing, technical achievement, and outstanding production categories.
