Board Commissions Olt to Captain 'Titanic'

April Olt will captain the Curtain Players staging of the Tony Award-winning Maury Yeston-Peter Stone musical TITANIC in 2012. The board of directors has affirmed the appointment on the recommendation of the director selection committee.

Olt is a veteran Curtain Players director, having staged MAURITIUS (2010), THE TWILIGHT OF THE GOLDS (2009), and Playwrights Festival entries. She will helm the upcoming BOY GETS GIRL for Curtain Players. Olt has directed productions in Chicago, New York City, and for such Central Ohio companies as King Avenue United Methodist Church, Theatre Daedalus, and Emerald City Players.

The board opted to appoint a director well in advance of the April 2012 presentation as TITANIC will require more preparation than most main stage productions at the Harlem Road playhouse. The musical — to be presented on the occasion of the legendary maritime disaster's 100th anniversary — will be a highlight of the community theatre's 49th season.

The board hopes that in addition to the actual production, there will be opportunities for related TITANIC programming, such as panel discussions, to illuminate the many aspects of this historic event as well as to discuss Curtain's staging of the musical.
